BHS Visit in photos

Alhumdulilah, we received an amazing guided visit in the BHS bank headquarters, Bld de Gaulle!

We thank profusely Mme Marie Fall, mother of Abdoul Aziz Diakite (Grade 4), who made this visit happen! 

We were offered lunch and gift packages as well during the visit! 

BHS bank, at the end of the school year, also promised that the top 5 students will receive an endowed bank account each (as gifts of encouragement). The accounts (livret d'epargne) can only be accessed by the student when he/she becomes 18 years old.

Important information for this week!

Field trip (Sortie pédagogique)  to BHS bank tomorrow, Wednesday 27 March

This month's field trip will be to the BHS bank, where Abdoul Aziz Diakite's mother works. Parents are welcome as chaperones.

Spelling Bee

The Grades 3 - 5 Spelling Bee will be held on April 11th inshaAllah. This Spelling Bee is not the IQRA school spelling bee which will be held at a later date.

Students will receive their word lists today inshaAllah.

Showtime

The showtime will be this Friday 29 March inshaAllah, at 16:30. There is no school on Friday. Students should be here at 16:00. We will need to do a little run thru before showtime!
We greatly encourage all parents to come and enjoy the show!

Parents Conference

On Saturday  30 March inshaAllah, parents are encouraged to collect report cards and to talk to their children's teachers from 9:00 - 12:00. There will be no school this day. Students may come with their parents.

Spectacle a IQRA and other goodies...

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah!

IQRA organise son premier spectacle de l’année dans l'enceinte de l’établissement ce vendredi 29 mars inshaAllah, a 17h30.

Notre classe fera un "step show" inshaAllah. Bon, a vrai dire, nous commençons a petits pas, étant des amateurs!

Votre présence est vivement souhaitée.

SPELLING BEE

The Spelling Bee will no longer be held next Tuesday inshaAllah. However, students still need to learn their words! And of course, the spelling quizzes will continue as usual, once every week on Mondays or Fridays.

PD DAY

There will be no school on Monday 25 March inshaAllah. Teachers will have a Professional Development Day.

Spelling success!

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah!

We had our first Spelling Quiz this morning after implementing the use of INDEX CARDS to help with memorization. Alhumdulilah, more than 90% of the students got ALL of the 20 words asked to spell!

Students will be given a word list to memorize each week inshaAllah. We hope that they continue like this!

With the spelling mistake in the poster, we can see why spelling is so important!

Why spelling is important

Children, though, often do not see the importance of spelling. Why not spell book, buk; or read, rede? Spelling standards prevent confusion and they also add to the creativity of English.

Spelling is the basic skill underlying writing. Without learning to spell fluently our train of thought is interrupted during writing. How many times have you had to change a word because you didn’t know how to spell it? Have you ever had the problem where even spell check didn’t recognize it? I know. Before learning the logic of English, I sometimes abandoned the perfect word because I didn’t know how to spell it well enough to look it up.

Spelling standards are the gateway to creativity. This needs to be reflected in curriculum as well as in real life.
